Playground Synthetic Grass Promotes Increased Activity
The Synthetic Turf Council has made an announcement highlighting the increased opportunities for children to get greater use from parks and playgrounds that have been installed with a synthetic grass surface. The emphasis is placed heavily on the fact that there is a growing number of parks and playgrounds are now using synthetic grass so enable the access to the areas to be increased. As a result the chance for children to play on these sites is increased making a more active and healthy lifestyle available for all.
The use of synthetic grass for these parks and playgrounds means that in a lot of cases previously unusable spaces can be reclaimed and used by the wider community. An example that is quoted is Cumberland Park in Nashville, Tennessee. This park was built on a former brown field industrial site next to the Cumberland River. The decision to install synthetic grass in high traffic areas was based on its durability as well as being able to incorporate safety features into the surface plus the reduction in watering that such a surface would require.
The surface of a playground does not necessarily have to conform to the standard green that you would expect from a grass surface. In fact, most of the synthetic grasses that have been installed in public playgrounds and day care playgrounds offer a far more stimulating visual display when multiple colors are used. These colors might be blue sections representing meandering rivers, yellow or orange for deserts or a combination of a few different colors just to provide greater interest.
The safety aspect of using synthetic grass is a primary concern thanks to the safety fall rating that they are required to provide. This means that synthetic grass that has been designated as playground grass will be well padded to a specific fall height that is designed to protect children climbing on playground equipment.
A safer and more enjoyable playground means that parents are going to feel more comfortable allowing children to freely access the site and the look and feel of the surface will encourage kids to want to play there. It all adds up to increased play activity and this means healthier children.
